Demolition of North Fairfield Road building, 26-Mar-08

If you've got pictures of the demolition, especially of the old building, please email Stephen at webmaster@charitybaptist.org and let him know. You can either email the pictures or burn them to a CD and give them to him at church.

Here's the demolition in various stages. There are also pictures of some of the timber from the old building (late 1880's) and a wooden peg that was used instead of nails.

Picture 18 shows part of the cable that ran between the north and south ends of the old building to help hold it together. It was needed after a tornado in the 30's weakened the structure. If you were ever in the tape room (which was the original nursery), the cable was enclosed in a carpet-covered casing, and it ran along the ceiling. If you ever wondered why there was something that looked like a small beam covered in carpet, now you know.
