FOR YOUR SACRIFICE,
Thank you veteran!
WWII, Omaha Beach, D-Day, June 6, 1944. “We were the second wave to assault the beach. The sky was a mass of smoke, explosions, and enemy fire. The ocean water was filled with bodies and red from blood. Landing craft and equipment impeded our progress. Explosions, fire, confusion and chaos added to my fear. We assaulted a distance from shore, and some of my friends drowned or were shot in the water. Bullets cracked by my ears, and another one took my helmet off my head. Only myself and one other from my squad survived that day. A bullet also sliced through my backpack, and later I survived shrapnel from a German tank. It was only by the mercy of God that I am alive today." ~ Sgt. Charles Hargis, U.S. Army WWII Veteran, 82, Beavercreek, Ohio. Dear Veteran, In these eight conflicts of WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Panama, Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, over 636,000 men and women have given their life for our freedom. Words cannot describe how appreciative I am for those who voluntarily fought for our liberty. My grandfather was a soldier, my father was a soldier, and I am a soldier. I am free because of you veterans. I speak English because of you. I serve God freely because of you. Thank you for your sacrifice. For a person to voluntarily and selfishly give their life for freedom is incomprehensible to most people, because it’s a sacrifice that most people are unwilling to make. Yet it is the greatest, unselfish sacrifice that any person could make. A father may give his life in rescuing his drowning child or a mother may die while rescuing her baby from a fire… but a veteran who gives his life, does so for his country, and other Americans that he doesn’t even know, some of whom never appreciate the sacrifice. Only one other person has given a sacrifice of such a great price…and it was the greatest sacrifice ever given. That was over 2,000 years ago when God gave His Son, Jesus Christ, who willingly died on the cross. Like a soldier, Christ did it voluntarily, but He did so to pay for our sins and to give all mankind freedom from hell, and life everlasting in Heaven. Everyone has sinned1, and that’s the reason why we die2. Death is a sure thing…. whether in combat, by an accident or naturally… and after death is judgment day3. Sin is what sends a person to hell4, but the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses away all sin5! So Jesus, who was sinless and holy, willingly died on the cross for our sins, and rose from the dead6. All we must do to be forgiven of our sins is to accept what He did for us, by believing on Him, and confessing (or admitting) that we have done wrong7. Just like many people are not appreciative for the sacrifice veterans have made, many more are not thankful for Christ’s sacrifice. I invite you to believe on Jesus Christ and receive His gift of eternal life. The Bible says that if you confess and believe… you will receive8. Pray this prayer and mean it. “God, I admit that I am a sinner and worthy of hell. I confess my sins and accept Jesus Christ as the payment for them. I believe that He died for me, was buried and rose again. I trust in His blood for forgiveness. Thank you for saving me now. In Jesus’ name, Amen”. I’m grateful for the sacrifice veterans have made. I’m even more grateful for the sacrifice Christ made. Not only do I have freedom as an American, but I have eternal life through Jesus Christ. Thank you veteran and thank you God! If you have prayed this prayer, would like to speak with a veteran, or request a free Bible study or prayer, please call or write us. Sincerely, Brian Hargis Master Sergeant U.S. Army Special Forces brian.hargis1@us.army.mil
