Our Church History

Dr. Greg Estep is the founder of Charity Baptist Church and Charity Baptist Bible Institute.  The Church was started in May of 1977 in Dr. Estep's garage.  After outgrowing the garage, the property at 1506 North Fairfield Road in Beavercreek, Ohio was purchased late in 1977.  The vacant white church that was on the property was formerly an old German Baptist Church building that was built in 1886.  When purchased in 1977, the building did not have running water or electricity.  Dr. Estep and a handful of members built bathrooms and classrooms and began to meet weekly.  By 1978,  Dr. Estep had developed the Charity Baptist Bible Institute and Seminary, which today runs over 500 students worldwide.  Advertisements were run  weekly in the daily newspaper (see pictures below).   The church body grew and a new addition was added in 1985.

By 2006, the congregation had outgrown the building, and in 1997, Pastor Gresham began praying for a buyer.  A few days later, a representative from Wright Pat Credit Union knocked on the door and asked if we wanted to sell the property.  On January 17, 2008, the sale was finalized.  We purchased the current location at 1600 Brownleigh Road, Kettering, Ohio in February 2008.  The church was formerly owned by the First Baptist Church of Kettering (Pastor Barry Jude).  On February 17, 2008, Charity Baptist Church held it's first service at the new church.

Dr. Estep's vision to reach the world with the gospel has been enacted through a massive mission program and shipping ministry.  By 2005, the shipping ministry has sent over 123 containers of Bibles and gospel literature to foreign countries!  Through the ministry of Dr. Estep, numerous men and women have been trained and sent throughout the world as missionaries, pastors, teachers, and evangelists.  Countless souls have trusted Christ as their Savior because of one man's vision to evangelize the world.  Dr. Estep retired in 2001 and Dr. Tom Gresham (former Assistant Pastor of church) was selected as pastor.  Dr. Estep still has an active role as a teacher of the Bible Institute, as well as occasional preaching.
