Personal Testimony

My name is Guanue Mellish Gbendah; my wife is Bendu S. Gbendah. We are both natives of Liberia, West Africa. I grew up in a Christian home and my father served as a Bible teacher at the Baptist Bible Institutes of Liberia. I got saved in 1978 in Bong County, Liberia, and became a member of an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church in my hometown. Growing up as a teenager, I sense the calling of God upon my life to serve Him as a Missionary.

In December of 1990, I fled the ravages of a deadly civil war in Liberia along with thousands of my countrymen and women to a neighboring country call the Ivory Coast, where I served as a pastor to an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church. The Lord brought my family to the United States in March of 1999 and we became member of the Temple Baptist Church, pastored by Dr. Clarence Sexton. I graduated from the Crown Bible College in 2002 with a Bachelor of Biblical Studies in Missions.

The Civil Crisis

The war in Liberia has taken the lives of over half a million people, and there are over ninety thousand Liberians that are seeking refuge in camps in other countries, while several thousands are displaced internally in Liberia. As the result of this carnage, our Missionary friends have left the Country, and the safety of Foreign Missionaries is yet uncertain. Approximately 500 Liberians die daily without hearing the Gospel Message of our Lord Jesus Christ. Liberians are experiencing high rates of poverty, malnutrition, diseases, and mortality. Many professed Christians are turning to Animism, Witchcraft practices, and Islam as a way forward for survival.

There is a great need for revival and evangelism to build the capacity of Fundamental Baptist Churches and leaders to effectively meet the challenges of reaching the people of Liberia for Christ. As a native of the country, the Lord has burdened my heart for missions to Liberia. And there is nothing more than a man having a burden for his people.

We are glad to be sent by the Temple Baptist Church as their national Missionary to Liberia, and serving with the World Wide New Testament Baptist Missions as a Missionary.

We need your prayers and support as we return to Liberia to serve the Lord among our people.

Goal:  Our main goal is to obey our Lord, by going out into the highways and byways of Liberia, seeking lost souls at ALL costs, for Christ.
